Dimorphic Pit Connections in the Red Alga Pseudogloiophloea
نویسنده
چکیده
Pit connections are unusual structures found almost exclusively in the septa of "higher" red algae (Florideophycidae) . Their structure (Myers et al ., 1959; Bouck, 1962; Peyriere, 1963 ; Bishoff, 1965 ; Bisalputra et al ., 1967) and formation (Ramus, 1969 b) have been described with the aid of the electron microscope . Pit connections, at maturity, consist of two structural components : a circular septal aperture and a lenticular plug fitted into the aperture . The plug completely disrupts the cytoplasmic continuity which once existed between adjacent cells (Ramus, 1969 b) . Previously, the mature pit connections of an individual were assumed to be structurally identical. This paper will describe some interesting structural differences found in the red alga Pseudogloiophloea, with the aid of both the light and electron microscopes, and will consider the significance of these differences.

Three-dimensional preservation of cellular and subcellular structures suggests 1.6 billion-year-old crown-group red algae
The ~1.6 Ga Tirohan Dolomite of the Lower Vindhyan in central India contains phosphatized stromatolitic microbialites. We report from there uniquely well-preserved fossils interpreted as probable crown-group rhodophytes (red algae). The filamentous form Rafatazmia chitrakootensis n. gen, n. sp. has uniserial rows of large cells and grows through diffusely distributed septation. Each cell has a ...
متن کاملThe Effects of Neonatal Exposure of Formononetin Drived from Red Clover on Some Parameters of Sexually Dimorphic of Mice
Introduction: Formononetin is a phytostrogen found in plants such as red clover (Trifolium pratense), which has a chemical structure similar to the estradiol hormone. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of formononetin derived from red clover on sexual dimorphic indices in mice during neonatal life. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, male and female neonate mice...
متن کاملGrowth of red alga Gracilariopsis persica (Rhodophyceae) in desalination pools of Qeshm Island
Gracilariopsis persica is one of the most abundant red algae distributed in Persian Gulf, despite increasing use in medicine as a major source for natural biomaterials and bioactive compounds in recent years, the researches on growth parameters of this alga remains limited. The main aim of this research was to study the favorable conditions for G. persica growth. Also it was to find the suitabl...

The present study analyzed several characters of the red seaweed Gymnogongrus torulosus, such as cellular structure of the thallus, cuticle, pit plug and cell wall ultrastructure, and morphology of some organelles like plastids, Golgi bodies and mitochondria. Also, anomalous chloroplasts with thylakoid disorganization were found in medullary cells. The significance of this thylakoid disposition...
متن کاملAn Overview on: The Red Blood Cell Histogram
The RBC histogram is an integral part of automated hematology analysis and is now routinely available on all automated cell counters. This histogram and other associated complete blood count (CBC) parameters have been found abnormal in various hematological conditions and may provide major clues in the diagnosis and management of significant red cell disorders. In addition, it is frequently use...
